MVP Families April Mid-Month Meeting

In May 2017 we began a mid-month MVP Families gathering for our MVP parents to focus on in-depth family goals and for the kids in our program to receive tutoring opportunities. We’re excited to be a part of this resident-led program and to help families in 32805 meet their academic, financial, and health and wellness goals.

Mid-month meetings are located at the POLIS office (1123 W. Conroy Street, Orlando, FL 32805) and happen from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. A light dinner is typically provided. If you’re interested in attending and live in the 32805 area, please contact us via shawn @ polisinstitute [dot] org.

This month’s meeting will be a combination of our usual mid-month opportunity and a planning meeting for our upcoming participation in the Citrus Bowl Parade. We’ll be building a float together again this year on Friday, October 30th (more information to come).

Leadership Eatonville | Prototyping Session III

Graduates of the Leadership Eatonville Growth Leadership Certificate program will be participating in three sessions of prototyping to turn their ideas into reality. The program continues with brainstorming, feedback, and ideas for partnerships, implementation, and funding sources to turn the initiatives the participants came up with in the first part of the program into a functioning community initiative within Eatonville.

These follow up session will take place every other Thursday evening for 6 weeks. The first session begins on Thursday, December 14th from 6pm to 8pm at the Denton Johnson Community Center. We look forward to the transformative impact that these community members will have by implementing the ideas they see the need for in their neighborhood.

Nov. Lunch & Learn: Orlando Neighborhood Improvement (MO CO-OP)

MO CO-OP (Metro Orlando Cooperative for Thriving Neighborhoods) is a membership association improving quality of life in distressed Central Florida neighborhoods. Each month the CO-OP covers a topic related to Asset-Based Community Development and shares lessons learned from the field.

NON-MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME. Current members include  LIFT Orlando, POLIS, Kaley Square, First Presbyterian Church, Emmanuel Fellowship, St. Lukes United Methodist Church, South Street Ministry, and 306 Foundation.

If you are involved in community work or would like to become involved, the CO-OP is a great place to meet-up with like minded individuals and organizations.

Each participant will select a specific community initiative – existing or new – to work on using the principles and practical tips learned in the sessions. The course is free for Eatonville residents. Non-residents may apply.

The workshop series will be held every other Thursday evening between August 10th and October 19th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm in the Denton Johnson Community Center (400 Ruffel St, Eatonville, FL 32751). Graduates of the program will be eligible for additional one-on-one coaching sessions in the winter that will help them attract investment in the initiative that they are working on.
